Shepherd of the Desert Food Pantry
"Food for the Soul"
Our SOTD Food Pantry is an outreach ministry of the Thursday Morning Women's Bible Study. With the caring spirit and prayerful support of our Church community, God has truly blessed this ministry.
The pantry serves all of those who call on Shepherd of the Desert for assistance : shut-ins, those with limited transportation, facing loss or change of income, those who are elderly, alone, weak with illness or suffering multitudes of other life-crisis events. Please contact Pastor Jon or Pastor Rosnau if you or someone you know can benefit from this ministry.
An individual's dignity and privacy is always foremost when a helping hand is offered.
Year around donations of non-perishable food and personal care items in NON GLASS containers are always welcomed. Each item is labeled with a scripture verse to carry The Good News of Jesus. These items are placed into grocery bags to provide breakfast, lunch & dinner. Monetary donations are used for grocery store gift cards toward the purchase of perishable items.
Each Christmas, Thursday WBS and the Pantry also provide laundry sized baskets of food to families in need. Christmas 2011, 250 baskets were distributed to our Church community, the Pima Reservation, Lutheran Hispanic Ministry and Kid's Place.
Our SOTD congregation , SOTD Boy Scout Troop 911 and SOTD school work together on "Souper Bowl Sunday" to collect items for the Pantry. In 2010 over 3,000 items were received, scripture labeled & shelved.
Volunteers assist in the many phases of this ministry. If you are interested in participating, please contact:
